If you’re looking to join a club where laughter and fun is a mandatory part of what you do every day, then Improv Beyond is the perfect club for you.
Improv Beyond is Marywood’s premiere improvisational theatre club that began in November of 2012.
The club was started by current club president and second year graduate student Daniel Huy.
“It’s a club like no other where you sit down, you learn, you practice, and most importantly you have a good time. Every rehearsal is like going to an improv show.” said Huy
The club meets two times a week in the performing arts center to play games and rehearse techniques that people commonly see at improvisational shows.
“My favorite part of Improv Beyond is the amount of laughing and fun we have during rehearsals,” said vice president Nick Grevera, sophmore theatre major.
Since Improv shows are completely impromptu, rehearsals aren’t what you’d typically expect from a theatre club.
“We find games we see on ‘Whose Line‘ or anywhere else and we try them out at practice. If we like them we incorporate them into our show at the end of each semester,” said Huy.
Improv Beyond hosted their very first show at the Black Box Theatre, in the Sette LaVerghetta Center For Performing Arts, last semester.
“The show went great! We had a packed house, everything went smoothly. We had a lot of members performing for the first time ever, and they felt great afterward,” said Huy.
Since the club started, it has continued to grow and currently has 14 active members.
Improv beyond will host their next show on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nazareth Student Center Latour Room.
