Spring is in full swing here in NEPA (finally!). With the warm temperatures and bright sunshine also comes a change in fashion.
We quickly ditch the tights, boots, and long pants in favor of our favorite spring trends such as shorts, skirts, sandals, and flats.
But before I make the switch to dresses, I like to make sure that my skin is in its best condition. To do this I use sugar scrub in the shower and body butter right after. I originally pinned this from babble.com. Here’s a “recipe” to make homemade butter and scrub.
Supplies for body butter:
Coconut oil (you could use any oil such as (vegeta ble oil or olive oil; I just prefer coconut oil)
Optional: essential oils
Mixer or whisk
Mixing bowl
Air tight jar
Measuring cup

Measuring cup
Note: The supplies in these recipes are pretty interchangeable. I just used what I had on hand. You could also mix in vitamin E, aloe, fresh mint, lemon, orange, honey, or even your favorite perfume.
Steps for body butter:
First, measure about one cup of coconut oil into a measuring cup. (The oil should be solid, so don’t melt it.)
Second, put the coconut oil into a mixing bowl and add a drop of your essential oil or scent.
Third, mix together the combination with a mixer or a whisk for about 5-8 minutes. During this time, the coconut oil should change from an opaque white color to a fluffy, white consistency.
Fourth, spoon the mixture into an air tight jar. You may want to keep the mixture in your fridge so the coconut oil doesn’t melt, but it’s not necessary.
Steps for sugar scrub:
First, measure about 2 cups of sugar.
Second, measure about 1 cup of coconut oil.
Third, melt the coconut oil in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
Fourth, combine the sugar and coconut oil in a large bowl and add a drop of the essential oil or scent.
Once everything is mixed together, spoon the mixture into the air tight jar.
And now you are ready to use your sugar scrub and body butter. Your skin will thank you.
