Last night the Marywood Players performed a cabaret performance featuring songs by Stephen Sondheim and Stephen Schwartz in the Black Box Theater. Produced by Dominique Ferraro, the show featured solos, duets, and group performances with singing, dancing, or both. When asked what went into planning this performance Ferraro said “when we decided to do the songbook, we had so many submissions for solos, and we didn’t want the show to be two hours long, and so I thought, what if we have everyone’s solos be one minute, and we keep the duets and trios the same” and that’s what they did. Despite having a cast of 20 plus people, everyone had their own moment to shine. Ferraro said she was happy with the production and that she had heard from audience members that they enjoyed the “quick and sweet” nature of the show. At the end of the performance graduating senior Gabriel Jenceleski was thanked for his time with the players as this was his last performance with Marywood. When asked about his time with the players and the theater program here at Marywood Jenceleski named Midsummer Nights Dream and the Magic Flute Opera as his favorite productions during his time here at Marywood. He also said that his favorite part of the Players is that it gives everyone an opportunity to be involved in theater, regardless of their major or ability to commit the time required for a MainStage show.
