On October 9, the IHM Center held the annual service “An Empty Place at the table.” in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. “An Empty Place at the Table” is a service held in honor of those who have been killed due to domestic violence. The Women’s Resources Center of Scranton puts the event together and it has been held in the chapel of the IHM Center for around 10 years. The event has two parts, a table where there are places set for those in the community who have lost their lives and a prayer service. Each place setting is set for a victim of domestic violence from the area. The settings are made by loved ones of the victims. At the service, a candle is lit for every place at the table in remembrance of the victims of domestic violence.
