Editor’s Note: This article is reporting on an ongoing situation from May 16. The Wood Word would like to clarify the individual arrested was a Marywood student at the time of the arrest.
The Marywood student arrested on charges of child pornography last May is awaiting a formal arraignment.
The attorney general’s office arrested Matthew Staats, 24 of Nazareth, Pa., on May 16. Staats was charged with 43 counts in relation to possession and distribution of child pornography, according to his public court documents.
Staats was confined in Lackawanna County Prison following his arrest and posted a $75,000 bail two days later through a surety bond from Andrew Pizzo Bail Bonds in Kingston, Pa.
The Magisterial District Court transferred Staats’ case to the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County on July 19.
A pre-trial conference was held on Sept. 1, and a date has not yet been scheduled for Staats’ formal arraignment.
