This November, Marywood’s Mission Integration Committee is introducing Mission Month. It will highlight the ways Marywood students embody the university’s mission statement every day.
Director of Campus Ministry and Mission Integration Chair Sr. Catherine Luxner, IHM said Mission Month was created to help bring attention to positive things being done on campus and how they connect to the university’s mission.
Luxner said students should not just know the mission, but live it and acknowledge when they do. Throughout the month, Luxner is encouraging students to become more self-aware of how their actions relate to Marywood’s core values.
“I think the Marywood mission, because of our Catholic identity, is not just that we do it, but why we do it and how we do it,” Luxner said. “A Marywood education is about more than just going to class, taking exams and collecting credits. You’re weaving and creating not just a career, but a life for yourself.”
During Mission Month, Marywood will hold its annual Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family project, where students and organizations can volunteer to shop, prepare and deliver baskets to low-income families on Nov. 17 or make a monetary donation.
Also, IHM Founder’s Week begins on Nov. 9 to celebrate the heritage and history behind the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM).
Student Government Association (SGA) Service and Volunteering Representative Kate Bateman said she has been able to see firsthand the incredible array of opportunities Marywood centers around its core values.
“There are so many avenues for service that Campus Ministry and dedicated student leaders are involved in that directly benefits our Marywood campus and community every day,” said Bateman. “This Mission Month serves as a great opportunity to share our good work as well as drive our student body towards the continuing commitment in the core values.”
According to Luxner, videos, stories and social media posts demonstrating these examples will be showcased throughout the month of November.
