Marywood’s Multimedia Communications department received its first Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy nomination this summer for College/University Student Production Live Sporting Event/Game. Marywood University is one of three colleges nominated for this award, going up against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Robert Morris University.
Students Vincent Goldschmidt, Felix Lettini, Soren Svanson, Corey Iyoob, Cameron Gorman, Bernard Roedel, Benjamin Galko and John Downey were all a part of making the basketball broadcast come together.
Goldschmidt, a junior Multimedia Communications student and sports commentator, had high hopes for what the basketball broadcasts could become. Goldschmidt is also editor-in-chief of The Wood Word.
“When I first got here, they weren’t doing basketball broadcasts and I pitched bringing them back,” he said. “The department put in a lot of money and the freshmen that came in last year really stepped up and helped make the broadcast what it was.”
Assistant Coordinator of Broadcast Operations and Advisor James Donnelly is excited for the students’ nomination and hopes that the future of sports broadcasting continues to shine bright.
“When I found out that these guys were nominated for the basketball coverage, I was thrilled. We’re up against some heavy hitters, big colleges and universities, so I am proud,” Donnelly adds.
Sophomore Multimedia Communications student and Technical Director Felix Lettini is looking towards the future and is ready for the upcoming season. Lettini is also multimedia editor of The Wood Word.
“I am excited for the future of the basketball program. We have a lot of the crew coming back for this year and have many plans to make the broadcast even better,” Lettini mentioned.
“Win or lose, I think it’s a great experience for the students because they’ll be sitting there and watching the production companies from the Flyers, the Eagles, the other news companies so they’ll be seeing a lot of good examples of what they want to pursue their careers in,” Donnelly states.
The students head to the Wyndham Grand in Pittsburgh on Sept. 21. For more information about the nominees, visit https://natasmid-atlantic.org/students/collegeuniversity/6849-2/. To stay updated on the winners, visit the Mid-Atlantic Emmy instagram page.
