The inauguration of Marywood’s 13th president, Lisa A. Lori, J.D., will take place on Friday, November 8. There will be many events that will take place on campus this upcoming Friday, under a theme of inaugural festivities entitled “Ignite the Light.”
Some events that happened so far this week include the Inauguration Week Fashion show, held by Student Engagement and Fashion Club, on Tuesday. The themes of the show included college, athletics, leather and business.
Another event, Stuff-A-Plush Squirrel, happened on Wednesday. Students had the opportunity to make their own plush squirrel and take it home in comparison to the live ones around campus.
Upcoming events include:
Inauguration Liturgy and Ceremony: The liturgy will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, bishop of Scranton, and will take place at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Along with President Lori, previous Marywood Presidents Sister Mary Persico and Sister Mary Reap will take part in the ceremony as well.
Both the liturgy and ceremony will take place at the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts. Both the liturgy and ceremony will be livestreamed, due to capacity regulations and the ceremony being by invite only.
Inauguration Watch Party: There will be a watch party for students in the Latour Room at Nazareth Student Center. Students will also receive a celebratory lunch, courtesy of President Lori, in the Main Dining Hall.
Inaugural Gala: An Inaugural Gala will be held for invited guests, including faculty and staff, at the Insalaco Arena at the Center for Athletics and Wellness at 6 p.m.
“Highlights from the Maslow Collection”: The art exhibit will be on display in the Mahady Gallery and the Maslow Study for Contemporary Art in the Shields Center for Visual Arts. The exhibit will open on inauguration day and will run through until January 24, 2025.
Visitors on campus on Inauguration Day are encouraged to visit the galleries, viewing the largest collection of contemporary art in Northeastern Pennsylvania, with over 700 works by more than 150 artists.
Other events on campus this week include Dress in Your Best 90’s Fit on Thursday, and a Green and Gold Day on Friday to celebrate inauguration day.
“Each day, you provide me with so many reasons why I love being your president! I would be deeply honored if you would join me to celebrate my Inauguration Day on Friday, November 8, 2024,” says Lori, via an email sent out to invite students to inauguration events.
