The hit social media app TikTok was set to be banned earlier this year back in January. However, the initial ban only lasted about 14 hours before President Donald Trump brought it back online.
Trump had extended the time for a company to buy out TikTok for an extra 75 days, which meant that another ban would take place on April 5. However, TikTok users were not met with a message when opening the app about the ban as April 5 drew closer.
On April 4, Trump made a statement about TikTok and what his plans were. Trump stated, “We do not want TikTok to go dark. We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the deal.”
This time around, TikTok was not banned, and the date for a company to buy out TikTok has been extended another 75 days. The new possible ban date is June 19.
Trump also came out and said “We’re going to have a form of a deal, but if it’s not finished, it’s not a big deal, we’ll just extend it.”
It has been rumored that there was a deal being made between the U.S and China with the TikTok app, but due to President Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, there was a falling out.
