Once the snow melts, the rackets will be out, and the games can begin. However, Pacers tennis has the target on their backs this year. They will have to defend their CSAC championship and keep their conference undefeated streak alive.
Topping off his illustrious tennis career at Marywood, Senior Greg Chilson returns to continue his dominance in green and gold. Last year, he was named to the CSAC First Team for Doubles and Second Team for Singles, as well as garnishing Player of the Week twice. On the upcoming season, Chilson expects to do the same.
“I do not want to change my style of play,” stated Chilson. “I want the team to continue to play the way we did last year. It obviously worked, and we will do our best to continue the way we play tennis.”
The Pacers also return some dominant CSAC players. CSAC Rookie of the Year, Todd Doran, returns for his sophomore campaign on the courts. Other returnees are sophomores Ethan Jones, Josh Mecca, Frank Nicolosi, Wyatt Nolan, Dan Pfafman, and Barrett Wentworth, who have all been named to CSAC First, Second, or Academic Teams. How about that for some hardware?
The only new face to the program is Ryan Mulqueen, who brings youth and leadership, having captained his varsity high school team from eighth grade until graduation.
The team is youthful and now experienced. Head Coach Art Comstock and Assistant Michele Petrasko have the talent to build a dynasty here at Marywood. Pacers tennis was always known to be dominant in years past and now continues this excellence from 2011 and beyond.
