Marywood Tennis comes up short against Cairn University
On September 27, both Marywood University men’s and women’s tennis teams suffered losses of 6-3 to Cairn University. With these losses, men’s tennis drops to 0-2 and women’s tennis falls to 1-2. Both teams put in a very good effort, but Cairn was just too much to overcome.
Men’s Singles
On the singles side for the men’s team, Eddie McGreevy and James Cawley came away with victories withscores of 6-4, 6-3 for McGreevy and 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 for Cawley. On the other side, Jarrod Palmer, Hunter Talipski and Noah Budnovitch all took losses with scores of 4-6, 1-6 for both Palmer and Talipski, and 3-6, 3-6 for Budnovitch. The last singles match was forfeited.
Men’s Doubles
The men’s doubles teams both played tough matches this past week. The team of McGreevy and Cawley lost a well-played match with a final score of 4-8. In another hard-fought doubles match, the team of Palmer and Talipski came away with a win with a score of 8-6. The third doubles match was forfeited.
Women’s Singles
On the women’s side of things, Caroline Cadden and Faith Kendricks both took home singles victories, finishing 7-5, 7-6, 7-5 in the tiebreak for Cadden. Kendricks final score was 6-3, 6-4. Allison Bashore, Gabriella Nowak, Lyndsey Medric and Kayla Flyte all lost in competitive matches. The scores for these matches were: 5-7, 0-6, for Bashore, 3-6, 7-5, 7-10 for Nowak, 5-7, 2-6, for Medric, and 6-7, 4-7 in the tiebreak, 1-6, for Flyte.
Women’s Doubles
For doubles, Marywood took 1 of the 3 matches. Karah Laboranti and Caroline Cadden won with a final score of 8-4. On the losing side, Allison Bashore and Gabriella Nowak lost 5-8 in a well-played match. Lyndsey Medric and Faith Kendricks also lost 4-8 in another competitive matchup.
Both teams have big matches coming up in the near future. Both teams will be playing Penn College on October 9 looking to rebound after the tough losses to Cairn.
