Marywood Women’s Soccer played against the Wilkes University Colonels, with no mercy in mind. The Pacers held the Colonels to a score of 1-0. The Pacers in the first half held the Colonels to zero shots on goal, while Marywood dominated, with 11 on the mark, also earning six corner kicks.
Riley Mulherin charged for the first shot of the game, taking three throughout the match, with none finding the net.
Captain Josephine Sorce followed suit, taking three shots. Except she found more success than her teammate, netting the lone goal of the match in the 61st minute.
Despite the win, Sorce knows the team isn’t at top form, with conference play quickly approaching.
“In the first half, we were out-shooting them 11 to nothing, so I think our possession was really good,” Sorce said. “We’re not exactly where we want to be yet, but we came out with the win and that is all that matters.”
The Pacers host King’s College on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. This is the last non-conference contest of the season. Assistant Coach Colleen O’Brien hopes that Marywood can stay unbeaten on its home turf.
“I think we are in for a good game that day,” O’Brien stated.
