Women’s Soccer
To start the week, freshman Mia Menzzasalma earned her first Atlantic East Conference Defensive Player of the Week nomination.
In their final non-conference game of the season, the Pacers hosted the King’s College Monarchs. Both teams earned early corners, failing to convert. It wasn’t until the 42nd minute for the scoring to open, with Carly Walters putting the Pacers ahead. The second half was more even, yet Marywood doubled its lead, when Maura Kirkpatrick was set up by Riley Mulherin to double the advantage. The assist resulted in Mulherin’s 100th point, making her the fifth member of the 100-point club in Marywood Women’s Soccer history, as the Pacers would win 2-0.
Marywood was on the road to start AEC play, traveling to face the Knights of Neumann University. This game was a slugfest, with both teams firing shots relentlessly. Fortunately for the Pacers, Mulherin scored early in the second half. Caroline Walters was able to sneak a shot past the keeper, giving Marywood a 2-0 lead, one that the Pacers would hold onto.
Men’s Soccer
To finish non-conference play, Marywood was at King’s College. The Monarchs controlled that match, netting four goals, with Marywood’s lone goal coming from Jayce Wilson, as the Pacers were toppled.
Marywood welcomed the Neumann Knights to Scranton, to begin conference action. Neumann dominated the first half, outshooting the Pacers 10 to five, while also earning a 1-0 lead. The Knights struck again, early in the second half. Though Wilson was able to cut into the deficit, Marywood wasn’t able to come back, dropping its first AEC game of the season, 2-1.
Field HockeyGraduate student Cydney Lahr continued her reign of excellence, earning her third consecutive conference Player of the Week, while also being nominated as NFHCA Division III Player of the Week.
Marywood was scorching going into its game against King’s College. The Pacers struck thrice in the first period, with Maria Tomada, Lany Straub and Lahr all scoring. Marywood continued to dominate, scoring twice more, clinching its sixth straight win, 5-1.
The Pacers faced their toughest opponent yet, playing the ninth ranked SUNY Cortland Red Dragons. Cortland struck in the seventh minute to take the early lead. Marywood outshot SUNY Cortland in two of the final three periods, but the Red Dragons’ shots were more effective, handing the Pacers their first loss in nearly a month.
Volleyball
Marywood looked to earn a victory for the first time since its match against St Elizabeth University, hosting Wilkes University. Despite keeping the first set close, the Colonels took the first set. Sets two and three were routs, with Marywood being swept clean.
In the Drew University tri-match, Marywood started its day against Goucher College. Neither team was able to control a set, with every set being decided by no more than four points. Luckily for the Pacers, they were able to win three of the four sets, earning the win. Against Drew University, Marywood kept the first set close, losing it by four, before being dominated in the next two sets, being swept.
Men’s Tennis
The Pacers finished their fall half of the season at Pratt Institute. Marywood was able to win a doubles match, Freddie Kloss and Eddie Lennox winning third doubles 6-4. Marywood lost the other doubles matches, awarding the Cannoneers the doubles points. Kloss was the lone singles victor for the Pacers, as Marywood would lose, 6-1.
Women’s Tennis
Marywood faced the University of Scranton Royals, as the Pacers fall season was wrapping up. The Royals made quick work of the Pacers, sweeping them clean, 7-0.
The Pacers looked to bounce back against the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute. Marywood was able to take one of the doubles matches, with Faith Kendricks and Cat English taking care of business in the third doubles. Kylie Kilgore, Alex Vitale and Avianna Santarelli were all victorious in their singles matches, but Pratt was still able to come away with the win, 4-3.
