Women’s Basketball
The month of January had a lot of ups and downs for the women’s basketball team, but they sure ended the month with a bang. On Jan. 29, the Pacers got redemption over Centenary University. Junior Mia Blume stood on top of the Pacers with a total of 21 points. Along with Blume, Senior guard Olivia Ciullo led the team in rebounds with 12, and scoring 13 points of her own, as Marywood would split the series with the Cyclones, 68-50.
Starting the new month off with a loss is not what teams look for. But the Pacers took a heartbreaking fall on senior day and could not stand with Neumann University. Ciullo, Stephanie Klemick and Rachel McDonald were honored before the game for all of the hard work and dedication to the team for the past four years. The Pacers struggled to put points up in the first quarter, but picked up the pace for the second. Finley Bittenbender drained a jumper to give the Pacers a 22-21 lead into halftime. Marywood would control the lead for most of the second half, before a pair of late turnovers would cost the Pacers the victory, falling 49-46.
Men’s Basketball
Much like the women’s team, the men’s basketball team ended January with a win. Four days after being defeated by double digits, the Pacers came back hunting for a victorious night. This victory moved the Pacers to fourth place in the Atlantic East Conference men’s basketball standings. Junior forward Shilo Bivins shot 8-8 field goals, grabbing a career high 11 rebounds. Senior guard Brendan Franko led the way with 20 points, as Marywood knocked off Centenary 71-50.
Again much like the women’s team, the men’s team is starting February out rough. Marywood wouldn’t lack offense, having five double-digit scorers. Franko led the team with 19 points, with fellow senior guard Mason Medygral finishing with 15 points. Fifth year forward Cole Johnson had a total of 14, with Trevor Seitz, and Michel Loftin each having 12. Despite the stout scoring, Marywood had no answer for the Neumann offense, losing 92-81.
