Women’s Lacrosse
The Women’s lacrosse team continued their season by taking on King’s College. The Pacers took home the victory with the help of Kaitlyn Smith scoring six goals. Smith would reach a milestone by joining the 200-point club during the game. There were more career milestones as Natalie Yilanjian joined the 100-point club, recording a goal and assist during the game. Jenny Keagy led the way in goal, recording five saves. The Pacers defeated the Lions with a score of 21-11.
The Pacers continued their week facing off against Kean University. The Pacers’ offense was led by Avery Meighan, who scored seven goals and assisted on another. Natalie Yilanjian continued her strong week by contributing two points, with one of them being a goal. Alli Duncan and Jessica Banta each scored twice. Goalie Jenny Keagy made six saves to help the Pacers win their second of the week with a final score of 14-10 over Kean University.
Softball
The Marywood Pacers softball team started their season with a two-game, seven-inning doubleheader against cross-town rivals, the University of Scranton. Game one started with Marywood grabbing a 5-2 lead after four innings, thanks to the hitting of Tori Para and Riley Marshall, who both recorded a two-hit RBI day with Marshall hitting a home run in the second, her first of the year. The Pacers would extend their lead with an RBI single from Brianna Voyer. Starting pitcher Sam Ferrara had a strong showing, giving up four runs in 5.1 innings in her first start of the year. Despite the strong start, the Pacers would struggle down the stretch giving up two runs late in the game and then a walk-off in the seventh to lose the game 6-5.
Game two was all Scranton as the Pacers were only able to total four hits: two hits coming off the bats of Kat Davis and Para with one hit and one hit by Riley Knott. The Pacers would lose the second game of the doubleheader with a score of 8-0.
Baseball
Marywood baseball took on Penn State Brandywine. The Pacers kicked off the game with a three-run first inning. Tristan Gatchalain drove in Joel Ayers, followed by another RBI double by Adam Ginsberg, ending with AJ Giannetti driving home the final run of the frame. The Pacers scored two more runs off the bats of Ayers and Christan Michak, extending their lead to 5-0 through two. Marywood would give up a run each in the third and the fourth inning but would answer back with runs in the fifth and sixth with RBI by Ginsberg and Giannetti, with Max Slusser contributing with an RBI single in the sixth. The Pacers struggled in the eighth and ninth giving up five runs but were able to hold on and win the game 8-7.
Men’s Lacrosse
Men’s lacrosse continued their strong start with a victory over King’s College in overtime. Lucas Wilson got the Pacers on the board in the first. Followed by a goal from Shaun Howey, his first of a two-goal game. The Pacers would fall behind but goals from Ben Peters and Ben Meighan tied late into the game. Two goals from King’s in the fourth gave them a one-goal lead but a late goal by Howey forced the game into overtime. Overtime concluded when Ricky Strobel scored, giving the Pacers a 10-9 win over King’s.
Following their win over King’s, the Pacers continued their strong play against SUNY New Paltz. The Pacers were held scoreless after the first before John Scibello scored in the second to put Marywood on the board. Teammate Ben Peters’ goal gave the Pacers the lead going into halftime. The Hawks opened the second half with a goal, but four unanswered goals by the Pacers and 14 saves from goalie Colin Trainor helped secure the victory 9-4, their fourth in a row for the first time since 2022.
