As the 2025 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament approaches everyone is getting ready to set up their brackets. There will be lots of excitement and major upsets in the tournament. Sixty-four teams compete every year to win the national championship, but who will it be?
UCONN (No.2)
UCONN dominated the Big East conference, with an 18-0 record, and has a 28-3 overall record.
Having the projected top WNBA draft pick Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd healthy this season on the court, they are going to be a threat in this tournament. Head Coach Geno Auriemma has won a record-breaking 11 NCAA National Championships. Paige Bueckers is averaging 18.6 points per game. She’s shooting 53% from the field and 40% from the three. If UCONN uses their roster to their advantage we can potentially see them win the National Championship.
University of South Carolina (No.1)
South Carolina is a dominant team in the NCAA. Head Coach Dawn Staley has won the 2017, 2022 and 2024 national championships. The Gamecocks are 15-1 in their conference and 27-3 in the overall season. Joyce Edwards, who is a standout for South Carolina, has had an outstanding year. As a freshman, she is leading her team in scoring with 13 points per game. There is a strong chance we will see the Gamecocks in the National Championship again this year.
USC (No.1)
USC is having a tremendous season. They are 27-2 overall and 17-1 in their conference. Having sophomore guard JuJu Watkins on the roster gives USC a great chance to get to the final four and potentially the championship. Watkins is shooting 42% from the field and averaging 24.4 points per game. She is a huge asset to this Trojans offense. They are going to be a tough matchup to play against in this tournament.
Notre Dame (No.3)
Another team that’s a potential final four is Notre Dame. They are 16-2 in their conference and 25-4 in the overall season. Hannah Hidalgo is a sophomore guard for the Fighting Irish, shooting 46% from the field and 40% from the three, leading to an average of 24.2 points per game. Notre Dame had major upsets during the NCAA tournament last season against No.15 seed Kent State 81-67 and No.7 seed Ole Miss 71-56.
