Baseball
Coming into this week the Pacers knew they were going to be facing their toughest opponent on their schedule, visiting #23 Keystone Giants. Marywood got on the board early after Tristian Gatchalain drove in Christian Michak to take a 1-0 lead at the top of the first. In the following innings, the Pacers and Giants traded runs leading to a 3-3 tied game through six innings. With a couple RBI’s from Adam Ginsberg and Will Hudson, the Pacers quickly saw themselves up 6-3 through seven innings. The bats never slowed down for the Pacers, tallying on another run in the eighth inning, as well as another three runs in the ninth inning.
The Pacers took down Keystone for the first time in 10 years. Marywood defeated their first nationally ranked program since March 30, 2012, as the Giants ranked 23rd in Division III.
Riding high off of a dominant performance versus a nationally ranked opponent, the Pacers visited Centenary to kick off a 3-game series. Starting Friday, it was all Marywood, capturing a 5-0 road win. On Saturday, the Cyclones traveled down to Marywood for a back-to-back. The first showing was nothing short of a hard-fought battle. The bats were swinging for both teams with a combined 18 hits throughout the game. The Pacers were able to rally back during the sixth inning, bringing in two runs, now trailing by one run going into the final inning. Marywood was unable to capitalize in the seventh, dropping the first half of the back-to-back 9-8. The second game was all Cyclones defeating the Pacers 13-4, along with 16 hits to close out Saturday.
Men’s Lacrosse
The Pacers traveled to Misericordia University on Tuesday, March 25. In their outing, Goalie Colin Trainor was able to come up with 10 saves for Marywood. That wouldn’t be quite enough as the Pacers went on to lose 16-6. Later on in the week, Farmingdale State College came into town to face the Pacers. Marywood went on to lose 13-5, in a game that was mostly controlled by the Rams.
Women’s Lacrosse
Marywood traveled to face a non-conference opponent in Montclair State University. The Pacers struggled in the first period, allowing 10 goals to the Red Hawks. The Pacers were never able to bounce back from their slow start, with the final score being 19-6 in Montclair State’s favor.
The Pacers open up with their Atlantic East Conference play against Marymount on Saturday, April 5.
Softball
Opening up the week with a back-to-back versus Elmira College, Marywood started hot, capturing a 9-4 victory. The 4th inning was all Marywood, driving in seven runs. Jessica Hanley put the cherry on top in the fourth inning, hitting a triple while bases were loaded. The fourth inning push was all the Pacers needed to start off their series 1-0. The second matchup was a different story as it was a much more hard-fought game for both sides. Elmira came out on top 5-4, splitting the series.
A couple days later, Marywood hosted Keystone for another back-to-back. This series would be all Marywood with the consistent batting from the Pacers. They went on to win the first game 7-4, following that with a 6-0 victory.
To finish off the week, the Pacers traveled to Gwynedd Mercy for a conference matchup. The Pacers pulled off a win in their first game, 6-3. They started off strong, bringing in two runs to kick off the first inning. Marywood followed that with another three runs in the third inning, as well as one more run in the fourth. The second half of the back-to-back looked promising for the Pacers. That was until Gwynedd Mercy’s last inning push drove in four runs and helped them capture a 8-7 victory against the Pacers.
Women’s Tennis
Marywood had a successful outing this week, traveling down for a match against Muhlenberg College. Gabriella Nowak captured the top singles flight with a 6-4 and a 6-1 victory. Kylie Kilgore was victorious in the number 2 singles with 6-2 and 6-3 wins. Faith Kendricks, Alex Vitale, and McKenna Seavey all won their respective singles, leading to pure domination by the Pacers. They would go on to win both of their doubles matches, leading to a 7-0 victory for Marywood.
Conference play is right around the corner for the Pacers. Marywood will face Marymount at home on Saturday, April 5.
