Baseball
The Pacers started off their series against Marymount last weekend with a double header. They dropped both games and were looking to bounce back Wednesday with their last game of the series against Marymount. The struggles continued in game three with the Saints taking a three-run lead after two innings. AJ Giannetti drove in Adam Ginsberg with an RBI single to put Marywood on the board during the fourth inning. That momentum quickly deflated after Marymount had the bats going in the fifth inning, driving in eight runs, taking an 11-1 lead. The Pacers were never able to find their groove, ending the series with a 13-3 loss.
They continued conference play with a back-to-back on Sunday, taking a trip to Immaculata. In the first half of the doubleheader, the Pacers ended their drought, defeating the Mighty Macs 6-2. Austin Bausman started it off for Marywood, holding Immaculata to two runs through the first three innings. Owen Reilly took the mound ⅔ through the fourth inning. Reilly threw 3.1 flawless innings, holding the Mighty Macs scoreless for the remainder of the game, capturing a win. Game two went in the favor of Immaculata. The Pacers were within two runs through four innings. That didn’t last very long as the Mighty Macs drove in eight runs in the fifth inning, taking a 13-3 lead. Marywood was never able to crawl back, losing the second half of their back-to-back, 17-7.
Men’s Lacrosse
With the Cyclones coming into town, the Pacers were looking to take down a conference opponent. It’s safe to say that they did not disappoint. They quickly jumped ahead, taking a 8-1 lead after the first. The Pacers never took their foot off the gas, capturing a 21-1 victory. Sheamus Scanlan led the charge tallying a hat trick. It was certainly a team contribution with four other Pacers scoring two goals.
To finish off the week, Marywood traveled to face Immaculata in another conference matchup. Logan Sanders and John Scibello each scored two goals for the Pacers, but that wasn’t enough, as they were defeated 8-4.
Women’s Lacrosse
Natalie Yilanjian joined the 100-goal club after scoring a hat trick Wednesday against Centenary. Yilanjian didn’t stop there, tacking on a career high eight-goal outing two days later in a matchup against Immaculata. Kortney Harry notched a career-high six goals against Centenary.
The Pacers were dominant in both conference meetings this week. They started off their week with a win over Centenary, 25-1. The Cyclones were the first on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead early in the first. Marywood then went on to score 25 unanswered goals, leaving no doubt who the better team was that day.
In their second game of the week, Marywood hosted Immaculata, looking to go positive in the conference win column. Half way through the second quarter it was a neck-and-neck game, with the Pacers leading 7-6. What was a hard-fought game through the first 23 minutes, made a sharp turn for the greater good of the Pacers. Marywood went on to score 14 unanswered goals, along with shutting out the Mighty Macs in the last two quarters. The Pacers captured their largest margin of victory over Immaculata, 21-6.
Softball
Marywood hosted Albright College for a doubleheader non-conference matchup. In game one the Pacers took full control early, driving in five runs in the first inning. They never looked back, winning game one, 9-1. Grace Lorah took the circle for the Pacers in game two. She went on to allow no hits through five innings while also tallying four strikeouts. Lorah’s performance contained the Lions and helped the Pacers capture a 7-4 victory.
The Neumann Knights visited Marywood for a doubleheader conference matchup. Game one was defensive showing by both sides. The Pacers got on the board in the second inning and that’s all they needed to secure 1-0 victory. They followed this with another shutout, defeating the Knights 4-0 in game two.
Women’s Tennis
Marywood hosted the Marymount University Saints after inclement weather forced a rescheduling. The Pacers were able to take the second and third doubles matches to clinch the doubles point, before Marywood swept the third through sixth singles. Faith Kendricks needed a third set to win, but was able to outlast her opponent. Alex Vitale, McKenna Seavey and Avianna Santarelli all picked up convincing victories to help Marywood win overall, 5-2.
Men’s Tennis
In a similar situation as the women’s team, the men’s tennis team hosted the Saints of Marymount. The Pacers struggled in doubles play, with the closest match being first doubles, losing 6-3. Singles wasn’t much better, as only one Pacer was victorious. Jack Biggs put together a valiant effort in second singles, falling just short in the third set. Fred Kloss was put into an equivalent scenario, though he was able to walk away as the only winning player, as Marywood lost 6-1.
