The 2025 NFL Draft has now come and gone, and it’s safe to say that it did not disappoint. This draft will be remembered for years solely off the Shedeur Sanders draft slip. The Jaguars have officially announced that they will be playing WR/CB, Travis Hunter, on both sides of the ball. Cam Ward became the clear number one quarterback draft prospect, with the next QB not selected until the 25th pick. Will Cam Ward live up to the hype? Who were the best picks in each round of this year’s draft?
Round 1:
Pick 3rd: New York Giants select Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State
I couldn’t go with anyone else here besides Abdul Carter, who is the consensus number one draft prospect. His talent and upside is inevitable. Carter could be the final piece to a New York Giant pass rush that already is filled with stars all over. Although Carter won’t be able to solve all of the issues for the Giants, I do believe this moves the needle for their defense. Could we be looking at the best pass rush in the National Football League?
Honorable Mention: Pick 27th, Baltimore Ravens select Malaki Starks, S, Georgia
Round 2:
Pick 15th (47), Arizona Cardinals select Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
Johnson’s recent injury history plummeted his draft stock. The Cardinals still got a major steal with getting the 10th overall draft prospects, 47 picks in. Johnson is one of the best talents throughout the entire draft and will be a huge contributor in Arizona.
Honorable Mention: Pick 3rd (35), Seattle Seahawks select Nick Emmanwori, S. South Carolina
Round 3:
Pick 12th (76), Dallas Cowboys select Shavon Revel Jr., CB, East Carolina
Shavon Revel Jr. is a phenomenal cornerback that was ranked as a top five CB coming into the draft. His speed and length gives him the ability to disrupt plays. He has great size and is able to battle with a WR when it comes to a jump ball. If Revel Jr. had not suffered a torn ACL less than a year ago, we would most likely see him being a first round pick.
Honorable Mention: Pick 1st (65), New York Giants select Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo
Round 4:
Pick 31st (133), Kansas City Chiefs select Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State
Jalen Royals dropping to the fourth round to the Chiefs was a perfect fit. Kansas City has a very thin receiving core. Royals is a very balanced WR who can impact the game in many ways. Adding another playmaker to help out Mahomes could go a long way.
Honorable Mention: Pick 3rd (105), New York Giants select Cam Skattebo, RB, Arizona State
Round 5:
Pick 6th (144), Cleveland Browns select Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
Shedeur Sanders slipping to the fifth round is undeniably the craziest story from this year’s draft. Sanders was the second highest rated QB coming into Thursday, with a 96% chance of being drafted by the 21st pick. Shedeur is an outstanding prospect and I’m led to believe that there’s other reasons than his play that led to his slip in the draft.
Honorable Mention: Pick 27th (163), Carolina Panthers select Mitchell Evans, TE, Notre Dame
Round 6:
Pick 8th (184), New Orleans Saints select Devin Neal, RB, Kansas
Devin Neal has had a great college career, logging over 1,000 yards in his last three seasons. Neal is a well-rounded back that can extend plays with his strength and quickness, as well as a receiving back in the backfield. The Saints having the ability to grab a player of this caliber as insurance for their backfield is very important, as Alvin Kamara is only getting older.
Honorable Mention: Pick 11th (187), Houston Texans select Jaylen Reed, S, Penn State
Round 7:
Pick 15th (231), Miami Dolphins select Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas
Although Quinn Ewers didn’t have the greatest season at Texas, he showed many flashes of what could be an NFL QB. The Dolphins have encountered many QB issues throughout the past few years, with injuries keeping this team from reaching a higher level. With second to last pick in the draft, I think Ewers was a great selection. Who knows, maybe Ewers will grow as a backup quarterback in the NFL and eventually become a starter.
Honorable Mention: Pick 7th (223), Seattle Seahawks select Damien Martinez, RB, Miami
