Marywood University’s annual Family Weekend, sponsored by Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD), is three days of scheduled fun this weekend for students and their families.

Family Weekend is taking place from Friday, Sept. 23 to Sunday, Sept. 25.

Ruth Walsh, administrator assistant of SALD, said the weekend will include events such as a mentalist performance, multiple Marywood sport games, a fun game of bingo and a carnival.

“It’s wonderful for the students to spend time with their families and to experience fun activities,” said Walsh.

World-renowned Mentalist Jonny Zavant, who has performed on stages across America including the TV show “America’s Got Talent,” will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday night in the Latour Room.

Marywood’s new president, Sr. Mary Persico, IHM, Ed.D., will kickoff the mentalist performance.

Family Weekend continues on Saturday with a carnival at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Art Field. There will be free carnival games, inflatables, a professional photo booth, pumpkin painting and food.

Nicole Southard, a junior early education major, said her family is traveling from northern New Jersey and is looking forward to attending the carnival.
“I think it is important for my family to see what I’m doing in school and the activities I’m involved with,” Southard said.

If families didn’t previously register for Family Weekend, they can register in the Nazareth Student Center on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Nazareth’s Main Dining Room will offer a buffet brunch for $6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as buffet dinner for $8 per person from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Parents must find accommodations on their own if they are planning on staying in the area all weekend.

At 6 p.m. on Saturday evening, there will be a celebration of the Eucharist in the Marian Chapel.

After Saturday’s Mass, bingo will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Latour Room. All students and their families are invited to play. A variety of prizes are up for grabs, including a $200 gift card to Kalahari Indoor Waterpark, Bose headphones, Marywood swag and more.
