Sororities Alpha Sigma Psi and Zeta Phi Delta welcomed potential new members at their annual “Meet the Greeks” night Wednesday, Sept. 4. Attendees learned of the qualities, values and service that is expected of joining either group.
When Alpha gave a presentation showing new members its philanthropy and sisterhood events, current member Emma Devlin expressed her proudest moment of the night.
“I loved watching our members’ reactions,” said Devlin. “Seeing members talk fondly about an event that [was] mentioned was so heartwarming… We have built something that our members love and are proud of,” said Devlin.
National sororities are typically rooted in a philanthropic mission of service. Zeta, for example, celebrates breast cancer awareness with events throughout the year.
Morgan Decker, who attended the event as a potential new member, shared her own philanthropic experience and goals.
“In the past, I have dedicated time through volunteer work for Tracey’s Hope Hospice
Care and Rescue, [which is] a non-profit organization that specializes in taking care of
elderly, sick and terminally ill dogs,” said Decker.
“There are several opportunities throughout the year where the sisters could volunteer their time helping to raise funds for the organization and pets in need,” said Decker.
Following the social event, current members and chairs acknowledge the importance of staying in touch with potential new members.
“Whether it’s saying hi while passing each other in the LC or sitting down for lunch at Naz, we strive to interact with potential new members as much as possible leading up to and after recruitment,” said Zeta Public Relations Chair Riley Hogan.
