NEPA holds an endless amount of activities to partake in at all times of the year. With fall finally making its way around, we wanted to share some of our favorite picks of things to do in NEPA this fall.
Roba Family Farms
Roba Family Farms, located at 230 Decker Road, North Abington Twp., has been family owned and operated since 1990. The farm holds a magnitude of ways to spend your day, whether it’s exploring its famous corn maze, finding the perfect pumpkin in the pumpkin patch or eating delicious kettle corn while watching a pig race. The farm is currently hosting a “Jurassic Farm Dino Fest” until Sept. 29, featuring over 20 life-sized dinosaurs, a dinosaur nursery, dinosaur shows and of course, dinosaur food. Make sure to stick around until sunset to see the glowing pumpkin trail light up with over 25 different pumpkin scenes. The Circle Drive-In
The Circle Drive-In located at 1911 Scranton Carbondale Hwy, Scranton, is both a drive-in theater and a giant outdoor flea market. On Friday and Saturday nights, pick a spot and park with your friends and family for a movie night on the outside big screen. The drive-in also has a concession stand to supply you with all the needed snacks like popcorn, nachos, candy, etc. On Sundays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., the drive-in hosts a giant outdoor flea market which won the Reader’s Choice Award “Best Flea Market.” (See award at Page H017 | Reader’s Choice | thetimes-tribune.com). Swing by to grab some fresh produce, jewelry, antiques and so much more. Keep an eye out in October for the “Circle of Screams” event in which creatures of the night may be wandering as you watch your film. Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour
The Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour located at Bald Mountain Road, Scranton, is a great place for anyone craving a historic adventure. The mine, which opened in 1860, is a National Award Winning Historical Attraction, taking you 300-feet underground to explore the old Lackawanna coal mines. Your tour will be led by a miner who will dive deep into the history of the mines and miners, along with showing you all the mines have to offer. The Coal Mine Tour will operate until Nov. 23. Lakeland Orchard and Cidery
The Lakeland Orchard and Cidery is in Lackawanna County at 1649 Lakeland Drive, Scott Twp. Its hours are Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Lakeland offers a Halloween light show (You can reserve a spot on the train here: https://lakelandorchard.com/pages/pricing) Along with rides, attractions and live entertainment, there is also the annual Apple Harvest Festival where you can pick your apples while enjoying cider with friends and family. Take a ride on the Lakeland Express, which is a train ride tour around the farm, and enjoy a carousel, ax throwing and more. If you plan on going, they offer 15% off if you buy tickets online! Reaper’s Revenge
Reaper’s Revenge, located at 460 Green Grove Road, Blakely, offers a thrilling experience for those willing to confront the horror and thrill of five attractions consisting of terrifying monsters, phobias and much more. During a visit, you can expect actors to scare you, grab you and take you away from your group. Their main objective is to ensure you are scared out of your mind after leaving! If you are still up for the challenge, it has the Haunted Hayride attraction which takes you through 66-acres of dark trails with scary exhibits. However, if you are not up for the thrill, opt for the daytime hayride, which showcases the same concepts without fear and terror. Nay Aug Park
If you’re an outdoor adventurous person, you should definitely check out our local Nay Aug Park. It offers hiking trails, waterfalls and other outdoor activities that make the view worth it. When you visit Nay Aug, you can explore the Everhart Museum, which is filled with displays of natural history and fine arts. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to its collections. After that, you can visit the greenhouse, tree house and covered bridge for amazing views while experiencing nature. The David Wenzel Treehouse is also designed to be handicap accessible. The main attraction, the gorge, offers a hiking or walking journey to witness a beautiful waterfall. Just a heads up: it’s illegal to swim there because of extreme currents. The park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., so you have plenty of time to get in touch with nature! Nay Aug is located at 500 Arthur Ave., Scranton.
