The Loading Dock
Rachel: Loading Dock is located on 1206 Harry P O’Neil Highway, Dunmore.
They serve standard bar food that is portioned generously. This place has some strange hours: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday they are closed. Wednesday through Saturday they are open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Customers can also call to order takeout. My go-to dishes are the Italian wedding soup and chicken tenders and fries.
Roma Pizza
Rachel: Roma Pizza is located on the 840 Scranton Carbondale Highway/ Business Route 6 In Dickson City. This place offers a huge menu, so all groups can be accommodated. They also have a variety of pizza, some standard desserts and pizza frittas. Their hours are Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Roma Pizza does takeout as well as deliver, though depending on location that might be limited. My go-to orders are the chicken tenders for an appetizer and two slices of cheese pizza. I’ll occasionally order a pizza fritta.
Sacco’s
Rachel: Sacco’s is located on 208 Meadow Ave. in Scranton, across the street from the ARC of NEPA. They have pizza, subs and other authentic Italian food. Sacco’s is closed on Sundays and is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sacco’s also does delivery. I get the chicken and french fries as an appetizer and two slices of cheese pizza.
Ragnacci’s Family Restaurant
Rachel: Ragnacci’s is a small Italian restaurant located on 507 S. Blakely St. in Dunmore. They only accept cash and are closed on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday through Friday they are open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., take a lunch break (it’s a cultural practice in Italy), and return from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturdays they are open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. My dish of choice here is the lobster scampi. They also have shrimp scampi.
Kramer’s Grill
Brianna: Kramer’s Grill is a restaurant located at 100 S. Main St. in Archbald, a bit of a drive from campus but well worth the trip. They serve cheeseburgers, sandwiches, pizza, and wings, which have just about 40 different sauces they can be served with. Whenever I go there, I tend to get their cheese-filled breadsticks as an appetizer and their black garlic truffle dry rub wings for my entree. They are closed on Mondays.
Throop Soups
Brianna: Throop Soups is a cafe located at 737 Dunmore St. in Throop and is the primary plant-based/vegan business around here since Eden in Scranton closed earlier this year. I’ve enjoyed their Strawberry Fields smoothie and dairy-free cheddar biscuits, although their menu changes every week. They are open from Wednesday to Friday until 2 p.m. each day.
Cosmo’s
Vincent: Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on all days except Sunday (open until 8 p.m.) and located on Moosic Street in Scranton. Cosmo’s menu consists of different sub style sandwiches and fries. So far, I’ve tried their cheesesteak and bacon ranch fries. Both are solid menu options for a limited menu.
Basilico’s
Vincent: Up in Dickson City, on Commerce Boulevard, Basilico’s serves primarily Italian cuisine. Basilico’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. most days of the week, with Friday and Saturday being open until 10. Though I am yet to try the full menu, I’ve enjoyed their vodka, buffalo chicken and honey hot pepperoni slices.
Hank’s Hoagies
Faith: As you enter Hank’s Hoagies, decades of history are displayed on the walls. Whether it be the “wall of fame,” the local sports paraphernalia, or Christmas cards displayed by families in the neighborhood; Hank’s creates a cozy atmosphere that makes it a staple in the Green Ridge community. My go-to order is the Italian Hoagie with no mustard or onions.
Ben: Every Tuesday and Thursday for the past three weeks, a group of my closest friends and I would make the three-minute walk down the block to Hank’s Hoagies. I usually get an Italian hoagie without onions and mustard, an order Tommy Owens (the owner of Hank’s), has memorized by this point. Hank’s Hoagies is open on Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located at 1224 Woodlawn St., Scranton.
