Rachel:
Eminem: Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers, released his newest album, “The Death of Slim Shady” on July 12 this year. This album tells the story of Mathers fighting his alter ego “Slim Shady.” Two songs on the album stood out to me were “Houdini,” “Somebody Save Me” and “Temporary.” “ Houdini” is my favorite because of the upbeat tempo. “Somebody Save Me” is a slower song but I still enjoy it. “Temporary” made me cry because it’s about his death and the message he left his daughter Hailie after he died. Listen to the tracks in the order they appear on the album for it to make sense as a story.
Milky Chance: Milky Chance is a German duo that formed in 2012. I’ll admit I don’t know a lot of their songs, but the few I do know are: “Living in a Haze,” “Stolen Dance,” “Colorado” and “Flashed Junk Mind.” My two favorites are “Stolen Dance” and “Colorado” because I like the beats of those songs.
A-Wall: A-Wall is a Texan artist who makes songs from his bedroom. He started off on TikTok but isn’t extremely famous yet. In fact, I don’t know any songs by him except “Lover Boy.” That’s the song that’s part of the “Yo bro, who got you smiling like that meme.” I just felt it was worthy of mention because it’s an extremely catchy and underrated song.
Decemberists: We have a few songs by this band on our radio station. But the one song that stands out to me the most is “Oh No!” I like the beat of this song because it’s different and catchy. I also feel like this song could be used in a “Beetlejuice” film if Tim Burton decides to add to the franchise.

Role Model: Tucker Pillsbury, known professionally as Role Model, released his sophomore album “Kansas Anymore” this summer. “Kansas Anymore” explores love and life after heartbreak. His single off the album “Deeply Still in Love” encompasses all the themes in the album: he still loves his ex and although she may have moved on, he will always love her. He accepts the times he screwed up in the relationship and he ends his journey hoping that the two will end up together “someday, somewhere, somehow.” My favorites off the album include “Frances,” “Writing’s on the Wall,” “So Far Gone (featuring Lizzy McAlpine)” and “Someday, Somewhere, Somehow,” but the entire album is worth a listen!
Lizzy McAlpine: Lizzy McAlpine’s precise production and flowy lyrics paint a picture for the audience that makes her an artist to look out for. Her most recent album “Older” continues a common theme throughout all her albums: the anxiety of a blooming relationship. Her most popular song off the album, “Come Down Soon,” describes the anxiety of something good ending and that their relationship will eventually turn sour. My favorites right now from Lizzy are “Spring Into Summer,” “Drunk, Running” and “Pushing It Down and Praying.”
Charlotte:
Loossemble: Five former Loona members created a new K-pop group called Loossemble. After their debut with “Sensitive” and their comeback “Girls’ Night,” they made their second return with “TTYL.” I was not the biggest fan of the “Girls’ Night” EP, so I went into this release with skepticism. However, their newest release has such a catchy, unique sound that reminds me of the “Loona sound.” With its unique blend of synth and dance, the title track “TTYL” easily stands out from most K-pop releases this year. Some of their other songs like “Strawberry soda,” with a cutesy, innocent sound, and “Colouring,” with a more mature, catchy melody, are my favorites.
On Oct. 9, I went to their New York City concert and enjoyed every second of it. The girls played pretty much every song of theirs and had breaks where they interacted with the crowd. One of the members, Gowon, taught us how to do the “TTYL” dance, and filmed a TikTok of everyone doing it.
Azealia Banks: Azealia Banks is well known for her music and her presence online. Although she has not released anything recently, I’ve been getting back to her. Her album “Broke With Expensive Taste” has always been in-and-out my playlists with songs like “Soda,” “Luxury” and “Yung Rapunxel” being my favorites. Her song “The Big Big Beat” is what I’ve been obsessed with; it’s like three songs packed into one and I love it.
