Everyone has the right to like and dislike various music artists, but the hate for Nickelback is overblown. They aren’t necessarily one of the greatest bands of all time but they aren’t the worst either. So why is Nickleback so hated?
According to 10 Reasons why Nickelback Gets So Much Hate, people aren’t happy about the record label that signed them, saying, “RoadRunner Records bought their hit.” Other reasons why the group is hated include Nickelback not having a specific rock genre, Nickelback composing songs based on trends, other artists feeling Nickelback lacks talent, being blamed for the decline in grunge and Chad Kroeger lacking charisma.
The stuff about Roadrunner Records isn’t Nickelback’s fault. Of course they are going to sell their record to anyone interested. RoadRunner Records may have a reputation for signing metal bands but that doesn’t mean they have to stick to only metal.
Nickelback “not having a specific rock genre” and composing songs based on trends isn’t a bad thing. While most artists do have a signature sound, there is nothing wrong with experimenting to see what works and what doesn’t and if they don’t want to limit themselves that’s their business. Of course, Nickelback composes songs based on trends they want to sell their music as do most artists.
The rest of the issues listed are subjective. Even celebrities are entitled to their own music preference and if they don’t like Nickelback that’s fine, but it doesn’t mean they are inherently a bad band. Blaming them for the decline in grunge is ridiculous. Grunge would’ve died sometime with or without Nickelback’s interference. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. Chad Kroger not being charismatic is another subjective opinion, so to each their own on that matter.
The hate is so overblown that there is a scientific study dedicated to Nickelback hate. They are also hated for repeating themes and mediocrity but again it’s purely subjective.
Deadpool even responds to the Nickelback hate in a preview for “Once Upon A Deadpool.”
I’m not a huge fan of Nickelback but they do have some good songs such as: “How You Remind Me,” “Rockstar,” “Animals” and “Photograph.” They’re not one of my favorite bands but I wouldn’t mind listening to them on occasion. If you truly don’t like Nickelback that’s OK, but I just hope the hate is genuine and not because it’s cool to hate Nickelback.
