Invincible is by far one of the best TV series I have ever watched. It’s really the only reason why my family even has Amazon Prime Video. What I thought to be just an ordinary superhero show turned out to be far more than just that.
Fans were ecstatic when they announced that the third season was going to be released on Feb. 6, but even more pumped that there is no mid-season break like there was in season two. Just a couple weeks ago, season three ended, and man, it was a roller coaster of both highs and lows.
To start out, Amazon premiered Invincible season three with three episodes off the rip. And while these first three episodes were great, fans began to notice a significant downgrade in the overall animation quality.
If you have watched either of the first two seasons of Invincible, you’d know that this show is known for its breathtaking animation. Insane explosions, epic fights and the insane visuals in all the show’s settings.
Episode 6 titled “All I Can Say is I’m Sorry,” features a new villain known as Powerplex. He is sought out to kill Invincible because he believes that Mark is the reason his wife and child are dead, when in reality, Omni-Man was the one responsible.
This is where fans really began to notice the upgrade in animation. It’s still not quite up there with season one, but definitely better than all the other episodes. Not only that, this was also one of the best episodes in the season.
Then follows the Invincible War, where a bunch of alternate evil Invincibles from different timelines are sent to our Invincibles world to cause chaos. This episode also was a masterclass, with amazing fights, a lot of destruction and an amazing sequence of these evil Invincibles looking at all their destruction.
Finally, there is Mark’s battle with the oldest and one of the most powerful viltrumites, Conquest. This is exactly what we have been waiting for; the episode starts out with the two of them charging at each other at mach speed. Upon their collision, a giant shockwave is sent out, causing buildings to crumble, glass to shatter and streets to erode. This carries for the entirety of the epic battle. Despite the season’s interesting animation budget, the final three episodes made up for it.
Season 3 certainly shines in its voice acting. Steven Yeun as the protagonist Mark Grayson, Invincible, absolutely kills it by capturing all of his emotions.
JK Simmons as Omni-Man, Mark’s father, is another perfect casting. Even though he doesn’t get much screen time in season three, the couple of times they show him, you can tell by Simmons’ voice acting how much Omni-Man has changed while spending his time in a Viltrumite prison.
Powerplex was a pleasant surprise, he is voiced by Aaron Paul, most famously known for his role of Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad. This guy can do it all; he can yell, he can pour his heart out. Just with all the different tones he can do, it makes him almost scary. Powerplex didn’t seem like a memorable villain at first, but Aaron Paul is the main reason why fans think Powerplex is one of the best villains in the story so far.
Invincible season four is set to be the best season yet. Angstrom Levy is still alive, Atom Eve’s powers are acting up, Cecil Stedman kept Conquest alive and Omni-Man and Allen have broken out of the viltrumite prison. Despite the grim start this season had, it turned out to be almost as enjoyable as season one.
