Disclaimer: Massive spoilers for these shows if you haven’t seen them.
“Lucifer”
“Lucifer” was a comedy that featured biblical characters in the present day. The show centered around the devil taking a vacation from Hell and being a detective in LA. The first five seasons were entertaining but then during the sixth season everything fell apart.
During the sixth season everyone’s character arc seemed to fall apart. But the worst part about the final season was its finale. Throughout the season Lucifer and Chloe’s daughter Rory is angry because her father abandoned her.
During the finale Lucifer decides to become a therapist in Hell which sounds like an amusing ending but if you’ve seen the show it’s a terrible ending. As a result he did abandon Rory.
This was the worst ending possible because God abandoning him was an overarching theme of the show and he always complained he didn’t want to be anything like him. It also didn’t help that his brother Amendiel became the new God of Earth and still managed to stay with his family.
“Grace and Frankie”
“Grace and Frankie” was a comedy about two senior citizens whose husbands turned out gay and left their wives for each other. They ended up living together and becoming close friends because of this. Frankie was a hippie and Grace was a snobby rich business woman.
The first six seasons were good but by the seventh season it was clear the writers had no idea where to go. The awful part about this finale was it had potential. The finale involves Frankie planning her funeral because a psychic told her she was going to die that day.
Grace thinks she’s crazy and while Frankie is making a speech she and Grace end up dying by electrocution. They go to Heaven and meet Dolly Parton. After a bit she sends them back to earth and they spend the remainder of their lives together. While it was a sweet ending it was terribly executed.
“Victorious”
“Victorious” was a show on Nickelodeon about teenagers going to a performing arts school. I watched this show a lot when I was younger. The final episode was about everyone saying “yes.”
It was a strange episode with different side stories of the characters saying yes and getting themselves into different situations. The two stories to focus on for this finale are Tori and Jade’s story and Cat and Robbie’s.
Tori and Jade’s story was average for the most part but had an odd ending. They saw Tori’s sister Trina on a TV show and showed up to make fun of her, but then they got roped into doing a scene.
Cat and Robbie’s story had a distributing ending. They got mugged and lost their pajelehoochos, which is a combination of pajamas, a hoodie and a poncho. They didn’t have spare clothes and had to go back to their homes in trash cans and that was the final scene.
To be fair, “Victorious” was cancelled after that season and the crew thought they were getting another season. But it was still a weird episode overall.
“Sam and Cat”
This show was honestly a disaster from the start. “Sam and Cat” brought together Sam Puckett from ICarly and Cat Valentine from Victorious. Cat in “Victorious” was dumb but had a charm to her and Sam from ICarly was aggressive and could be mean but it was obvious she cared about her friends.
“Sam and Cat” made the characters one note, Sam was too mean and Cat was too dumb. They are great characters when they aren’t the main focus.
The final episode was about Cat and Dice heading to Phoenix for his hair modeling photoshoot on the cover of a magazine. While they went to Phoenix, Cat’s Nona stayed with Sam.
Sam realized that she liked having Cat’s Nona as her temporary roommate. Cat’s Nona was due to leave but Sam got a call from Dice that Cat was arrested for ripping off another model’s hair because she thought it was a wig and Cat’s Nona needed to drive up to Phoenix to bail her out, or she’ll be stuck there for a week.
Instead of relaying that message, Sam lied and claimed that Cat and Dice plan to stay in Phoenix for an additional week. Sam and Cat have been friends for a while by this point, so the show made Sam more selfish.
Granted, “Sam and Cat” was a disappointment from the start. So much so that I didn’t watch reruns and only watched the new ones. But the finale truly showed everything wrong with the show by centering it on the most irritating character and Sam and Cat’s one note nature.
“Victorious” was the only show that was cancelled without much notice. The crew thought they were getting at least another season. Though, that episode was still unnecessarily disturbing at parts.
The rest of the shows seemed to have more notice of cancellation and planned their finales, which makes the fact that they fell short worse. It’s a shame because the aforementioned shows were great before their final episodes.
